  1. Pretty fun little platformer. Main gripe was technical because it didn't perform too well. Overall it was a solid experience but there weren't too many things that made it stand out, and felt too much like a clone. Thematically Super Meat Boy has a more cohesive art direction as well whereas this seems more like a mish mash of ideas.

  2. Pretty standard platforming. It was clearly noticeable that skullface was influenced by SMB, from the music to the art style.
With that said, I thought the gameplay was fun, reminded me of the frustrating nights playing meat boy. I thought the introduction of the jet pack in the second level was a good game mechanic. I felt that that element would add a whole new level to the game in regards to the different types of puzzles and challenges in the future.

In the end however, like Sam had stated, I do agree that skullface was not cohesive.
The story lacked direction, why was skullface running to each portal for?
I had no reason to continue playing since I had no idea what the ultimate goal of the game was.

It's a very flattering game, a homage to super meat boy and N. At the end of the day though, it is just that and nothing more.
To be honest, after playing Skullface, I wanted to load up meatboy and play it.
For Skullface to stand out, the creator must take a new direction in the game, add an actual story to the game or introduce different mechanics that aren't found in any modern day platformers.

  3. Okay so I only played through the first level (I watched a full playthrough on youtube though), but I don't think there is too much to say that wasn't already said. It's a decent platformer. It's fun and all, and I think it's technically sound for what it is. Other than that though there isn't enough substance to it.

Less than a mish mash of ideas I feel the game overall just wasn't thought out completely. There is little to no story or incentive to do anything. The art direction was thoughtless: why were we running in what looks like a factory? Where are we? Why is it pipes in the next level? These sort of decisions seemed to have been made for frivolous reasons. Even adding the jetpack, which was cool for gameplay, had nothing to do with anything else in the game. Even the music, which may have been of decent quality, was uninspired and didn't seem to match anything about the game or add anything to it.

So yeah it seems like the creator wanted to make a game for the sole purpose of making a game. In that sense they were very successful. They made a game, that works, and is relatively fun to play. Otherwise I think it's lacking in just about every other aspect. I think this was a good game to play for analysis though. I think this game's lack of polish is something we can look for in anything we decide to create.
